Degrees Of Sin
"I thought all sins were the same!"
Surprised?  You shouldn't be!
Our court system makes distinctions in crimes
Think!   Misdemeanors - felonies - manslaughter -   first deree murder
More Tolerable "And you, Capernaum, will not be exalted to heaven, will you? You shall descend to Hades; for if the miracles had occurred in Sodom which occurred in you, it would have remained to this day.Nevertheless I say to you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for you." (Matthew 11:22-24 NAS)
We all know how God felt about Sodom and Gomorrah. He destroyed them with fire and brimstone. Sodom will get off lighter than Capernaum in the day of judgment becuse Capernaum had greater opportunity to follow Jesus because of the miracles. If Sodom had seen miracles, they would have changed their ways.
It is important to take advantage of all spiritual opportunities while you can.
Every Careless Word "And I say to you, that every careless word that men shall speak, they shall render account for it in the day of judgment . For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned." (Matthew 12:36-37)
Some people are bigger talkers than others. The more words that are spoken the more opportunity to be careless with your tongue. Have you ever wished you could have taken back some hurt you caused with your words.
Determine to give grace to others through what you say. Be aware of the need of the moment. Be more thoughtful of others.
Greater Condemnation "Matt 23:14 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you devour widows' houses, even while for a pretense you make long prayers; therefore you shall receive greater condemnation." (Matthew 23:14)
Some religious people use their religion for a cover to do evil. It does not go unnoticed. God's blood boils hotter at religious leaders who take advantage of the helpless.
How many poor widows send $1, $5 to a television preacher wearing a $3000 suit and huge diamond rings? Will there be justice?
Much Severer Punishment "How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?" (Heb 10:29)
Some people think nothing of quitting the church. They have committed three grievous sins. They have treated the Son of God as if He was worthless and ready to be thrown out on the road to be trampled on. They see no value in the blood that was shed on the cross for their sins.
How much mercy do you think one will receive who has INSULTED the Spirit who gives grace?
Many Lashes verses Few Lashes "And that slave who knew his master's will and did not get ready or act in accord with his will, shall receive many lashes, but the one who did not know it, and committed deeds worthy of a flogging, will receive but few. And from everyone who has been given much shall much be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more." (Luke 12:47-48)
God makes distinctions based upon different knowledge levels. Much more is expected out of the one who knows more. Playing dumb and committing deeds worthy of flogging is no excuse.
Committing deeds worthy of flogging, will get you flogged. The only question is how many lashes.
Stricter Judgment "Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we shall incur a stricter judgment." (James 3:1)
God expects more from certain people. Especially, people in responsible positions. Teachers use their tongues a lot. It is easy for them to lead people astray.
Be Careful. Do not let anyone talk you into being a teacher easily.
Judging Harshly "Do not judge lest you be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." (Matthew 7:1-2)
These verses are not used correctly. People say these verses say you should not judge anyone. It is talking about mean, harsh critical jugment.
There are different standards of measurement as to how you will be judged based upon how you judge others.
